M.Phil.
Eligibility for Admission
An applicant seeking admission to M.Phil Degree Programme shall have an LLM. Degree either from NUJS or from any other recognition University, having secured not less than a 'B' grade or an aggregate of 50% marks or its equivalent.
Admission Procedure
Eligible candidates desirous of getting admission to M.Phil. Course shall apply to the Registrar in plain paper.
Selection for M.Phil. Course shall be based on merit as determined by the pre-registration seminar of the candidates and interview to be conducted by the Experts Committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor for this purpose.
Duration of Course
The M.Phil. Course shall be of one academic year's duration.
Advisory Committee
On completion of the Registration formalities, the postgraduate Council shall constitute an Advisory Committee of three Members for each of the students admitted. Each student shall be assigned to a Faculty Member specialized in the area of law selected by the student for his/her dissertation, who shall be his Advisor and guide. The Advisor shall prepare a plan of work for the student indicating the teaching, research, seminar and other assignments to be given by the students and supervise the progress of his/her work. The plan of work subjected to the approval of the Faculty and postgraduate Council.
Teaching, Research and Seminar Assignments
Every student shall have teaching, research and seminar assignments conforming to the approved plan of work.
The teaching component of the assignment shall ordinarily contain :
- Preparation of syllabi and study materials for under-graduate classes or for a certificate/diploma course and/or a summer training workshop/seminar
- Attending faculty meetings when invited
- Taking tutorial or group discussion classes in the under-graduate and post-graduate courses etc
The Research work shall include, inter alia, attending courses on Research Methodology and guiding project work and field work of students whenever assigned etc.
The Seminar assignments shall include presentation of not less than three Seminars, the third and final being presented as a prelude to the submission of the dissertation, discussing among other things, the findings of the research.
Evaluation
Before the candidate submits his dissertation, the Advisory Committee shall evaluate his performance in the teaching assignments given to him and certify satisfactory performance or otherwise. Only when the Registrar receives a 'satisfactory' performance report from the Advisory Committee of the student, the Candidate shall be allowed to submit his/her dissertation.
The dissertation submitted by the student shall be referred to a panel of two external examiners for evaluation. In case of difference of opinion, on the merit of the dissertation, the dissertation shall be referred to a third external examiner, for an opinion. The result of the evaluation by the examiner, shall be indicated either as 'satisfactory' or 'not satisfactory', along with comments, in the prescribed proforma.
Award of Degree
The Degree of M.Phil shall be conferred on a student, who, having completed satisfactorily the other requirements, receives a 'satisfactory' report on the dissertation, from at least two examiners.
General
A candidate admitted to the M.Phil Degree Programme shall have to complete all the prescribed requirements within a maximum period of three years, including the year of admission, so as to become eligible for the award of the Degree.
