Mr. Prabhash Ranjan

Bio:
Mr. Ranjan got a distinction in the LL.M degree examination conducted by University of London. He is a Chevening Scholar. He was offered to be nominated by SOAS for the William Ross Murray scholarship and was also offered scholarship to study at the World Trade Institute (WTI), Berne, Switzerland. He was also selected for the South Asia LLM Scholarship award given by Warwick University, United Kingdom. These were declined.
Mr. Ranjan’s research interest is in law of the World Trade Organization (WTO); regional and bilateral trade agreements; international investment law; intellectual property and its linkages with developmental aspects such as biodiversity, public health, human rights and environment; competition law and policy.
He has been associated with research institutions and policy think tanks conducting policy research and advocacy on integrating development dimensions in trade policies and programmes. Before joining NUJS, he worked as a trade consultant with Oxfam GB for their South Asia project on trade and development. He also worked with CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics and Environment as a Legal Researcher. In London, Mr. Ranjan worked as a Research Assistant at the University College of London (UCL), University of London for Professor Valentine Korah, Emeritus Professor of Competition Law at UCL. He has also worked as a research consultant for United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and other organisations for various projects on WTO, trade and development and international investment issues.
Mr. Ranjan has presented papers in many international conferences with the prominent one being the conference on Trade and Human Rights organised by the American Society of International Law (ASIL) at the Georgetown University law Centre, Washington DC. Other conference presentations include conferences on WTO held at Hong Kong, Colombo, Kathmandu and Dhaka. Mr. Ranjan also attended the VIth Ministerial Conference of the WTO held at Hong Kong in 2005. During the course of his professional engagements Mr. Ranjan had the opportunity to engage extensively with a range of stakeholders including trade negotiators, universities and research institutions, trade policy experts, businesses and chambers of commerce and civil society in a variety of ways. At NUJS, Mr. Ranjan is teaching International Investment Law, Public International Law and WTO law.
