Dr. Mukhopadhyay held faculty positions at the University of Burdwan and at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. He was Registrar at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta prior to his appointment as Registrar, WBNUJS.

Dr. Mukhopadhyay was Commonwealth Staff Scholar in the United Kingdom and NORAD Scholar at University of Oslo, Norway.

He was also ICSSR nominee at Maison des Sciences de l’homme, Paris and is currently associated with several academic institutions in various capacities.
