Student Activities - Debates
NUJS students have participated in the most
prestigious international and national debate
competitions and won accolades for the
University. These include, amongst many others,
the following:
- The 25th World Universities Debating
Championship, 2005, Multimedia University, Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. This is the largest student competition in the world. Team was semifinalist in the ESL competition, while the two student members were adjudged best speaker and best speaker
/ runners-up in South Asian region. Both of them were ranked among the top ten ESL speakers of the world
- Oxford Inter-Varsity Debating Competition,
2005, Oxford University, UK.
Two students were ranked fifth and eighteenth
among all speakers, and were ranked highest and
fourth respectively among speakers from Asia.
- 11th and 13th All Asians Inter-Varsity Debate Championship,
Assumption University, Thailand and University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia.
One student was selected as chair for the debate and qualified to the
Grand Finals of the Public Speaking Competition. The University team
broke to the Octo-Finals as the second Indian team ever to do so.
- 10th International Parliamentary Debate Championship, 2005,
Government College University, Lahore, Pakistan.
The NUJS team were runners-up, while one member of the team was
adjudged runners-up to the` Best Speaker' prize.
- 6th L.N. Birla Memorial Inter Institutional
National Debate Competition 2005 (National Finals)
Student from NUJS won the title of National
Champion..
- National Library Centenary Debate.
NUJS was adjudged the 'best team', and one of the
members was the 'best speaker'. The team was
felicitated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West
Bengal.
