RTI Training conducted at BKTPP, West Bengal

A two Days Training programme on the Right to Information Act, 2005 was conducted by Ms. Vaneeta Patnaik (Associate Professor) and Ms. Garishma Bhayana (University Junior Research Fellow) at Bakreswar Thermal Power Plant from 23rd June, 2022 to 24th June, 2022. The Bakreswar Thermal Power Plant, under The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (a PSU), is one of the most reliable and prestigious coal fired power plants in West Bengal and in India, 20 participants were deputed by the organisation.

The aim of the training programme was to induct the participants on the working knowledge of the RTI Act, 2005. The training programme covered the basics of RTI Act, 2005 like important definitions, fundamentals RTI in practice and e governance, concept and requirements of proactive disclosures, exempt information and partial disclosures, role of PIOs and Assistant PIOs in the implementation of RTI Act, misuse of information and decision making within organisation/records management for effective implementation of RTI Act. Landmark decisions of the Central Information Commission, various State Information Commissions, Supreme Court and various High Courts were also discussed. This was supplemented by case studies and discussion based on the problems faced while implementing the act. The training programme was an interactive session and was successfully completed with organizers receiving an overwhelming positive response from the participants.
