The 15th NUJS-HSF Moot Court Competition, 20th-22nd January, 2023

It is with great pleasure that the NUJS Moot Court Society announces the successful completion of the 15th Edition of the prestigious NUJS-HSF National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition. Said competition – organized by the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) in association with Herbert Smith Freehills LLP (HSF), – had taken place from the 20th to the 22nd of January, 2023 on campus at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata.
The competition, long established as one of the most distinguished Corporate Law moots in the country, provides a singular opportunity for students to learn about the complex and engaging field of Indian corporate law in depth, as well as helping them polish their advocacy and public speaking skills – and with its inimitable quality of problem, coupled with the superlative roster of judges it attracts, – helps bring to the fore some truly stellar performances, serving to yet again raise the bar of cutting-edge experiential and applicative legal education in India.
The NUJS Moot Court Society & the Organising Committee would like to take this opportunity to place on the record its unqualified gratitude to our Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) N. K. Chakrabarti for his unstinted support and encouragement, without which, the event would never have come together as perfectly as it did. Our deepest gratitude to Mr. Niranjan Venkatesan for presenting us with a brilliant moot proposition, to Mr. Chris Parsons [Chair (India Practice), HSF], Mr. Andrew Cannon [Head (India Disputes Group), HSF] for their wholehearted support, and the HSF Support Team that tirelessly liaised with NUJS from their London offices to ensure the event’s success. We are indebted to Ms. Justice Shampa Sarkar [Judge, Calcutta High Court] for gracing the occasion and helping judge the Final rounds, and ’would like to convey our sincerest appreciation to our brilliant roster of judges, most being NUJS Alumni, for being so very generous with their time and advice, – not the least to Mr. Mithun V. Thanks, for re-visiting the competition he had brought home fifteen long years ago!
The NUJS Moot Court Society being a student-run body, our heart are indeed the students, and we would like express our most heartfelt thanks to the Office-Bearers, the Board of Directors, the Organising Committee, and to our volunteers, without whom, none of this would be. That said, our special thanks go to our Faculty Advisor, Dr. Paramita DasGupta for being there with us all along.
But we reserve our biggest thanks to the participants who travelled from across the country to be here in this exciting battle of brains, wit, nerves and eloquence. Our warmest congratulations to this year’s Winners, Team NLSIU Bangalore; Runners-Up & Best Written Submission, NLIU Bhopal; and Best Speaker, Mr. Raj Shekhar (NUSRL Ranchi). It is you who drive us to work hard and present you with this singular platform year upon year. We thank you for helping maintain that bar this year as well, – and look forward to hosting you again next year!
