Constitution Day Programme by Ministry of Law and Justice, New Delhi

The Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India in collaboration with the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi organized a Debate Competition on “Limits of Liberty: Rights and Duties in the Indian Constitution”, on 25th November 2023 commemorating Constitution Day 2023, at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. The team representing the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences comprised of Shirsho Ghosh and Aakash Satyadeo, students of LLM Batch of 2023-24 who were accompanied by the LLM Coordinator Dr. Sanjit Kr. Chakraborty. Shirsho Ghosh was adjudged as the Best Speaker in the debate competition and was felicitated by the Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar and Hon’ble Minister of Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 26th November 2023.

The contest saw a wide range of participants from across the country including National Law Universities like NALSAR, Hyderabad and NLU, Delhi and other prestigious institutions like Lloyd Law College and Punjab University. The event witnessed academic debate on core constitutional concepts like liberty, dignity, privacy etc. while at the same time contemporary issues like press freedom, terrorism and data protection were hotly contested and argued by the participants. It was an enriching and learning experience for all.
