Ankita Chakravarty

Bio-note

A full-time Assistant Professor of Social Sciences in WBNUJS Kolkata, she has been teaching the foundational Sociology courses along with an Optional course on Deviance, Control and Society.
She is also the Faculty In-charge of the Sunderbans Climate Justice Project, in association with Kings College, London, Doughty Street Chambers (UK), and Jadavpur University. She is also the Faculty Coordinator of the KCL-JGLS-NUJS Going Global Fund for Environmental Law, and has been a part of the Programme since its inception. She is also the Co-Coordinator of the Centre for Law, Literature, and Popular Culture at WBNUJS.
She was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) after clearing UGC NET and was enrolled as a UGC NET JRF in the Sociology Department at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She has participated and presented papers in national and international seminars and workshops, and has also published in International journals. She graduated with a first-class Sociology (Hons.) degree from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and subsequently did her M.A. from Calcutta University (First Class) where she stood second. She completed her M.Phil. in Development Studies (first class), from the Institute of Development Studies Kolkata under Calcutta University. She has also taught Sociology as a guest faculty in 5 different departments as part of the Humanities course in Jadavpur University. Additionally, she has also taught as a Guest Faculty in the MSW Course at IISWBM, Kolkata. Her areas of interest include deviance, criminology, medical anthropology and medical ethics, sociology of law and regulatory systems, globalization as well as the sociology of sport.
