Post Graduate Programme

(1 -YEAR LL.M)

Overview

The LL.M. degree course is a one-year post graduate course. This programme is introduced to attract students who either wish to join the academia or seek to acquire advanced research skills before joining the legal profession. The students therefore come from a wide variety of backgrounds with divergent legal interests and career plans. Our senior faculty members work closely with the students to help them in realising their full academic potential. We also actively involve students in our ongoing efforts to improve and enhance the programme. Together, we work to make each student’s experience in NUJS a rich and fulfilling one that broadens his or her intellectual horizons.
The curricular structure of the LL.M. Programme complies with the Guidelines for introduction of One Year LL.M. Degree Programme, 2012 issued by the UGC. The programme comprises of a range of compulsory and optional courses and a dissertation to be completed within a time frame of two semesters having duration of eighteen weeks each.
Specialised programmes are offered in the field of a) Corporate and Commercial Law, b) International and Comparative Law and c) Criminal and Security Law
The structure of the programme is aimed at developing interdisciplinarity and providing the students with a perspective that places law within the social, political and economic context within which it operates. Therefore, students are offered elective courses on subjects like Advanced Jurisprudence, Competition Law, Law and Global Justice, Gender and Law, Criminology, etc.
Research and legal writing is at the core of the Masters Programme. It has a substantive research component in so far it is predicated on submission of Research Dissertation and research papers in all the courses.
