Prof (Dr) Sukhendu Samajdar serves at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, WB (formerly West Bengal University of Technology) as Professor and Director of the School of Natural, Applied & Social Sciences; Head of the Department of Materials Science & Technology as well as Professor-in-Charge of the Language Laboratory.
Professor Samajdar has 25 years of academic and 10 years of industry/ corporate experience, of which 20 years have been in the United States of America. Upon earning his PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, he was appointed directly as an Assistant Professor at a premier university in Ohio, USA. In that capacity he engaged in collaborative research in Materials Science with a group at MIT led by Prof John B van der Sande, the then Dean of Engineering at MIT.
Prior to joining MAKAUT, Prof Sukhendu Samajdar served as the founding Pro Vice Chancellor of Kaziranga University in Jorhat, Assam and as the founding Vice Chancellor of Seacom Skills University in Santiniketan, West Bengal.
Professor Samajdar is well published in journals like the Journal of Applied Physics, the Journal of Materials Science, JMS Letters, the CIRP Journal, etc. He has supervised over a hundred postgraduate students for their thesis and dissertation work and made presentations at numerous conferences in all continents.
Dr. Sukhendu Samajdar is originally trained as a materials engineer. However, at present his interests are more versatile than specialized, including materials informatics, creative pedagogy, incubation & start-ups as well as the role of humanities in science & technology.
After his tenure in academia, Dr Samajdar had a stint in the corporate sector of the US, notably at Toyota, USA and Biomet, USA. He received the rare recognition “Elite of Lexus” from Toyota, USA.
He is a recipient of the prestigious Nehru-Cambridge Scholarship and was recognized by the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Materials Science for “thoughtful contributions” to that journal.
