Ms. Sonam Basu

Bio-note

Ms. Basu is a Teaching Assistant (Law) at the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. She had qualified the UGC NET at her 1st attempt in December, 2014 while she was pursuing her LL.M at the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, specializing in Corporate and Commercial Law. She had secured a First Class First in her B.A. LL.B (Hons) examinations. Her LL.M Dissertation was on “Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and Private International Law, with special reference to Patent”. During her graduation, she had undertaken several research works and projects on various issues, including Ombudsman: its development in India, Role of Election Commission, Government Securities- Role of Central Bank, Intellectual Property Rights in Cyberspace, amongst others. She has taught at Snehangshu Kanta Acharya Institute of Law, Kalyani, Nadia as a part of her internship program after completing her LL.B. She had offered lectures on Gender Justice to the undergraduate students there. She has participated in various National and International Seminars and has also presented papers. She has also been Resource person at Panel discussions as an Advocate.

Prior to joining the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, Sonam has been into litigation and was a practising advocate at the High Court, Calcutta since 2013. She has diverse experience of dealing with all kind of cases, both civil and criminal. However, she specializes in writ matters. She also has an experience of appearing before the Hon’ble Supreme Court as well as other District Courts and Tribunals. She has also been attached to the Anatomical Society of India West Bengal Chapter as a legal advisor. As an advocate she had many reported judgments of AIR, SCC, Calcutta Law Times, Criminal Law Journal to her credit.

Besides her academic duties she is also shouldering the duties of being the Faculty Co-ordinator of the Legal Aid Society and Pro-Bono Club of NUJS, Kolkata.
