Vision:

The Centre for Data & IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) Research and Outreach envisions a future where cutting-edge research in data science and intellectual property rights plays a pivotal role in advancing innovation, knowledge creation, and societal development. We aspire to be a leading hub for fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, driving technological advancements, and shaping policies that promote responsible and ethical use of data while safeguarding intellectual property rights.

Objectives:

Research Excellence:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of data and intellectual property rights.
  • Explore emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in data management and IPR.

Knowledge Creation and Dissemination:

  • Generate new knowledge through research activities.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications, conferences, workshops, and other forums to contribute to the academic and professional communities.

Policy Development and Advocacy:

  • Engage in policy research to provide insights and recommendations for the development of effective data and IPR policies.
  • Advocate for policies that balance innovation, data accessibility, and protection of intellectual property rights.

Education and Capacity Building:

  • Offer educational programs, workshops, and training sessions to enhance the understanding of data management and IPR among professionals, students, and the wider community.

Industry & MSME Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with industries, businesses, and government agencies to understand real-world challenges and contribute practical solutions.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and partnerships between academia and industry.

Legal and Ethical Frameworks:

  • Examine legal and ethical dimensions related to data usage and intellectual property rights.

  • Engaging with the broader community through workshops, seminars, conferences, and public outreach programs.
  • Building awareness about the importance of data and intellectual property in various sectors.
  • To facilitate the owner of the product for GI recognition.
  • To address the nation’s high priority phenomenon.
  • To provide cluster development through Geographical Indication.
  • To boost the rural economy through the commercialization of products.

State & Central Governmental Departments collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration with various Government departments, institutions, organizations, and experts to address global challenges in data and IPR.

International Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration with international research institutions, organizations, and experts to address global challenges in data and IPR.

Innovation Support:

  • Support innovation by providing resources, guidance, and expertise in navigating data and intellectual property-related challenges.
  • Encourage entrepreneurship and the development of new technologies while respecting legal and ethical standards.

Monitoring and Analysis:

  • Monitor changes in technology, legal frameworks, and industry practices related to data and IPR.
  • Provide ongoing analysis and updates to stakeholders on relevant developments.

Impact:

  • The centre will provide sustainable livelihood options through employment generation programmes and business opportunities in the field of IPR related activities.

  • Explaining the process of filing application,
  • Handling infringement cases, handling in-house applications, especially in rural areas.
  • Assist in research for creating new and innovative ideas.
  • Through targeted seminars, awareness and capacity development programs, the Centre will help the stakeholders in bringing in more revenue to boost their growth.
  • Opportunities will be created for product development, innovation, and commercialization.
  • To create IPR clinics that will help in:
  • Patent filing
  • Copyright filing
  • Trademark filing
  • Deal with infringement cases related to IPR,
  • Create awareness amongst stakeholders to make them understand the economic benefit of filing IPR applications.
  • Creating capacity and skill development programmes.
  • Awareness in relation to domestic and international export.
  • Application of Intellectual properties in other fields through an inter-disciplinary approach to create wider impact and outreach.
  • Providing technological assistance and learning opportunities to help integrate the technical know-how into Intellectual properties by establishing Technology Innovation Support Centres (TIS).
  • Assist in gathering funds to expand productions, set up new areas of business in Intellectual properties and create new employment opportunities.
  • To disseminate the IPs created in the University for public use for the benefit of the society while also protecting the rights of the innovators.
  • Create courses designed for students of all ages to understand the benefit of technology and data in protecting Intellectual Property.
  • Creating a liaison between various universities in regard to the working of IPR clinics and cells for benefit sharing.
  • Give a real-world experience to students in the University in respect of filing applications of patents, copyrights, GIs to tackle the ground realities of IPR.
  • Deal in outreach programmes, engaging with NGOs, in relation to:
  • Products in villages like various handicrafts, agricultural goods, natural goods (Saree, dolls, crafts, etc.)
  • Forest products like Mohua, Honey, etc.
  • Manufactured products in industries like Singing bowl, shankha, etc.
  • Engage with MSMEs to:
  • Enhance IPR awareness.
  • Take measures to protect their Ips and enhance their business strategies regarding the same.
  • Assist in technological upgradation for effective use of IPR.
  • Training government officials on IPR related laws.
